Mira Nair may be facing a casting crisis for her flick ‘Midnight’s Children’ but the talented director has shift her focus onto a different flick now.
As per reports, Nair has decided to make a film based on a novel by Mohsin Hamid titled ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ and has also shortlisted a main lead for the same. And if sources are to be believed then Shahid Kapoor will be seen playing the protagonist in this one.
Buzz has it that Shahid will play a Pakistani man who lets go of his life of fame in America after a failed love affair and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Since the film is based on a bestseller, the lead role is quite an interesting offer for Shahid.
But Shahid wasn’t Mira’s only choice. The director had was initially caught up between Shahid and Ranbir Kapoor for the role. Confirming the news, a source said, “Between Ranbir and Shahid, Mira felt that Shahid had the intensity that the character required. While immensely appreciative of Ranbir’s talent, Mira thought that Shahid was better suited for this role.”
Going by the novel, the story unfolds in the form of a dialogue between Changez (lead role offered to Shahid) and an American he meets at a cafe in Lahore. The dialogues dwells into Changez’s life post the 9/11 attack in America.
Even though Shahid is yet to commit to the project, a source said, “Mira has already met Shahid. The actor loves the script. The necessary formalities are being worked out as both Mira and Shahid are extremely excited about the film and want to start working on it by early next year.”
