Over 25 artistes from various fields, including popular South Indian actors Arya, Anushka and Tamannaah were selected for the Kalaimamani awards 2010, instituted by the Tamil Nadu Government. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will present the awards in a function to be held in Chennai on February 13, an official press release said.
Vocalist K.N. Sasikiran, veena artists Rajesh Vaidhya and Sreenivasan, flute players Tiruvarur S. Saminathan, K.V. Ramanujam, playback singer Kalyani Menon and Nadhaswaram ‘Vidhvan’ Tirukadaiyur Muralidharan and Bharatanatyam dancer A. Hemnath have also been shortlisted for Kalaimamani awards for 2010.
Cinema actor Rohini, TV serial actor Malavika, folk artists Revathi (Villupaatu), K. Karupannan (Oyilattam), P. Murgeswari (Kargattam), S. Muthuramalingam (koothu), Sekhizhar (TV scripwriter), K.A. Pandian, M. Tiruselvam and Sivagangai V. Nagu (Nayyandi Melam) and another artiste D. Sekar have been chosen for the 2009 Kalaimamani awards.
Teleserial director R. Thirumurugan, ‘Tirukuvalai’ sisters Sundari and Savithri (Nadhaswaram), TV actor ‘Robot’ Sankar are among the awardees for 2008. Along with the Kalaimamani awards, the Chief Minister will also distribute the State awards for TV artistes besides awards given by the State Government every year in the names of poet Bharathiyar, renowned Carnatic singer M.S. Subbulakshmi and Balasaraswathi.
